The quantity and quality of children's dairy consumption are not enough
Chen Mingshan analysis, the current lack ofchildren's dairy consumption is mainly constrained by four factors: first, thehigh price of dairy market, the second is the lack of parents and children's knowledgeof dairy level, the third is not yet formed health-oriented dairy consumptionhabits, the fourth is to promote children's dairy consumption to improve thepolicy environment has not been sound.
In recent years, the trend of rising pricesin the dairy market has become an important factor limiting the growth ofchildren's consumption. The Ministry of Commerce monitoring data show thatChina's retail prices of ambient milk 2010-2021 annual average growth rate of4.4%, significantly higher than the average annual growth rate of pork and eggs0.9% and 0.59% during the same period. In recent years, China's dairyprocessing "high-end high price" tendency is obvious, in terms ofroom temperature milk, 2010-2021, China's processed dairy products and raw milkratio from 2.7 to 3.9 times, much higher than the current international pricelevel of about 2.5. According to the existing dairy prices, urban and ruralresidents dairy consumption to reach 300 grams of daily nutrition standards, dairy consumption expenditure as a proportion of food expenditure will reach28% and 46.7% respectively.
In addition, the general lack of dairyawareness in the country restricts the level of dairy consumption by childrenin China. According to the 2019 China Dairy Business Index Report, 60% ofparents believe that dairy is not a daily dietary necessity. 2020 Catohousehold purchase monitoring data also shows that dairy still has strongholiday consumption attributes, with 14.2% of sales in the welfare giftchannel.
In addition, some analyses say that theseparation of direct consumption rights and consumption dictates for children'smilk has led to a more complex consumption of images of children's milk packagedesigns. For children, the consumption of dairy products has in a sense becomea "buy the casket and return the pearl" type of fable, taste, appearance of the packaging rather than nutrition, become an important factoraffecting children's choice of milk.
China's dairy consumption history is notlong, has not yet formed a health-oriented consumption habits. In ChenMingshan's view, from the consumption level, China's children's dairyconsumption is still in the "drinking milk" stage, not only theconsumption is seriously low, and low-temperature fresh milk, cheese and othermore nutritious products consumption has just begun.
According to the FAO and IDF research in2020, more than 70 countries around the world have promoted the implementationof student drinking milk, targeting preschool children and primary and secondaryschool students, with an average coverage rate of more than 50%, covering 160million children. According to the China Dairy Association, China's studentmilk coverage rate is only 17%, which is still a big gap compared to the world.
