Fujifilm invested in the construction of a cell culture medium production base

ECHEMI 2022-12-09

Recently, Fujifilm announced that it will invest 188 million US dollars to establish a new cell nutrient medium production base in the United States.

Culture medium is a necessary medium for cell culture of biopharmaceuticals and regenerative medical products, and the market demand is constantly growing. Fujifilm's move is aimed at meeting the supply to pharmaceutical companies and research institutions.

It is said that this investment will build a new production base in North Carolina with a total construction area of 23,500 square meters. The project will start in the spring of 2023 and be completed and put into use in 2025. The new production base will be operated by Fujifilm's subsidiary in the United States. The annual production capacity of the new base is 3300 kiloliters of liquid media and 800 tons of powder media.

In addition, Fujifilm has production bases in California, the Netherlands and Japan. With the new North Carolina facility, the company will nearly triple its current production capacity for liquid media and nearly double its current production capacity for powder media.
