LANXESS once again ranked high in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index
LANXESS once again achieves high scores for sustainability: The specialty chemicals company ranks first in the "Chemicals" category of the European Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) with a score of 85 out of 100. In DJSI World, LANXESS came in second place as in the previous year. The Group had achieved particularly good results in the areas of product management, water and human rights.
Hubert Fink, Member of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG, said: "Sustainable, integrated thinking and acting support our corporate goals and are therefore rooted at all levels of the Group. We believe that regaining a very good ranking in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index is an affirmation and encouragement of our commitment. ”
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index evaluates companies in terms of environmental, social responsibility and corporate governance. DJSI World lists the top 10% of evaluated global companies in each industry, while DJSI Europe lists the top 20% of companies headquartered in Europe.
LANXESS climate strategy: 1-5 degree path
LANXESS' effective commitment to climate protection has been recognized by many external parties, most recently the well-known Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). The joint initiative of the climate protection organization CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and WWF validates the Group's emission reduction targets and confirms that LANXESS is contributing to limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. This value is a target set by the Paris Agreement and is generally considered a threshold to prevent climate catastrophe.
To this end, SBTi analyzes plans to reduce direct emissions from production (Scope 1), energy (Scope 2) and upstream and downstream value chains (Scope 3). Three years ago, LANXESS set itself the goal of achieving climate neutrality in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2040. In 2022, the specialty chemicals company expanded its goal to climate neutrality with Scope 3 emissions. It aims to achieve this by shifting to sustainable raw materials, "green" logistics and a climate-neutral product portfolio.
