LANXESS expands Scopeblue portfolio
LANXESS is about to launch a highly sustainable variant of its Bayferrox iron oxide yellow pigment. The pigments sold under the company's own brand Scopeblue have a significantly reduced carbon footprint due to the use of more eco-efficient raw materials. This reflects the increasing awareness of the product carbon footprint (PCF) of raw materials in the paints and coatings industry and the resulting demand for sustainably manufactured pigments.
LANXESS is responding to this development by gradually launching the Scopeblue product line as part of its sustainability strategy. The Scopeblue label indicates that the product is made from a high proportion of sustainable raw materials and has a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to conventional products.
Daniela Schmitt, head of global marketing at LANXESS' Inorganic Pigments business unit, explains: "With our new low-emission yellow pigment product range under the Bayferrox brand, we aim to support our customers in making their own value chains more sustainable. As the first manufacturer to push for an environmental product declaration for iron oxide pigments, LANXESS is now reinforcing its position as a pioneer in sustainability with this new low-emission product range."
The new Scopeblue product line includes the micronized iron oxide yellow pigments Bayferrox 3910, 3910 LV and 3920. They are ideally suited for high-quality formulations such as pigment pastes and highly pigmented exterior paints, offering relevant potential for sustainable products.
The Scopeblue pigments are made from more environmentally friendly raw materials based on renewable energy sources and have a PCF that is around 35 percent lower than the corresponding conventional Bayferrox product grades.
