An outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza has occurred in the United Kingdom
According to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), on 28 December 2022, the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs informed WOAH of an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the UK.
According to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), on 28 December 2022, the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs informed WOAH of an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the UK.
The location of the outbreak, Glenfaba, Isle of Man, was confirmed on 27 December 2022. The source of the outbreak is contact with wild species. Laboratory tests found 800 birds suspected of infection, all of which became ill, 450 of which died and 350 were killed and disposed of.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will provide weekly follow-up reports as the outbreak continues.
