BASF pushes new raw material for stabilizers, which are natural and biodegradabl
BASF has recently announced the development of Lamesoft®Balance, a 100% natural and biodegradable eco-friendly ingredient to stabilize ingredients in skin and hair cleansing formulations.
Lamesoft®Balance is a natural, cold-processable compound designed to stabilize the dispersion of emulsified waxes in personal care rinse products. It meets the needs of today's environmentally conscious consumers by meeting the demand for eco-friendly ingredients.
Lamesoft®Balance is said to act as a natural structure enhancer in surfactant-based systems, stabilizing wax-based emulsions in rinsing applications, even in low-viscosity formulations. Its use results in a finished formulation with uniform rheology.
It is composed of hydrogenated castor oil and vegetable oil-based alkyl glycosides (APG). It prevents the aggregation of small particles and reduces the settling rate of waxes in surfactant systems, especially those that can micellar thicken.
Hans-Martin Hacker, Head of Market Development at BASF Personal Care, says: "It is often very challenging to keep the fine wax particle dispersions stable in rinsing formulations." BASF now offers an easily biodegradable solution to help manufacturers of skin and hair cleansing products stabilize their formulations without the use of synthetic polymers. The product is also suitable for use with other surfactant systems.
Performance and sensory tests show that Lamesoft®Balance enhances foam performance in body wash formulations and provides a pleasant skin sensation. In shampoos containing cationic conditioners, Lamesoft®Balance has been shown to significantly enhance hair care. It is considered suitable for use in natural cosmetic formulations according to COSMOS and NATRUE standards.
