BASF and Henkel Partner To Replace Fossil Raw Materials With Renewable Materials For Henkel's Consumer Products
Following the successful pilot of Henkel's cleaning and detergent brand Love Nature in 2021, BASF and Henkel have jointly committed to replacing fossil carbon feedstock with renewable raw materials for the majority of products in Henkel's European Laundry & Home Care and Beauty Care businesses over the next four years.
Through the partnership, approximately 110,000 tonnes of raw material per year of fossil feedstock will be replaced by renewable feedstock using BASF's certified biomass balancing method. As a result, Henkel's core brands Persil, Pril, Fa and Schauma will reduce their carbon footprint, avoiding a total of around 200,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

BASF's biomass balancing approach replaces fossil feedstocks: renewable resources are used in the initial stages of chemical production. The amount of bio-based feedstock is then attributed to a specific product through a certified method.
BASF has established a closed chain of custody from the renewable feedstock it uses to the final product.
The independent certification body TüV Nord supports the practical implementation and confirms that BASF replaces the required amount of fossil resources for biomass-balanced products with renewable feedstocks according to the REDCert2 certification scheme.
