India: Tata Chemicals Launches Pharma Grade Sodium Bicarbonate
Tata Chemicals, the country’s leading producer of soda ash and sodium bicarbonate, has launched Medikarb, India’s first branded pharmaceutical grade sodium bicarbonate. It will be manufactured in FDA-certified facilities that are compliant with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards to ensure high quality conforming to the Indian Pharmacopoeia specifications, the company said.
Mr. Sanjiv Lal, Chief Operating Officer, India Chemicals Operations, Tata Chemicals, said the branded sodium bicarbonate is suitable for use as an API and in pharma formulations. It will be available through the company’s distributor network, he added. With an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes in India, Tata Chemicals also has two other sodium bicarbonate brands – Sodakarb, customised for use as a food additive and Alkakarb, for use in animal feed.
