Oil giant Exxon Mobil considers global layoffs
A spokesperson for the US oil giant Exxon Mobil said on September 2 that the company is assessing the possibility of layoffs around the world, after the company just announced a voluntary separation plan for Australian employees.
Exxon Mobil Australia said on the same day that it has begun to provide Australian employees with a voluntary resignation plan to ensure that the company can survive the "unprecedented" market environment caused by the epidemic and the sharp drop in oil prices.
The company stated that the plan will be available to all employees in Melbourne, Gippsland, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.
An ExxonMobil Australia spokesperson declined to comment on the proportion of employees the company plans to lay off.
Commenting on the plan, Casey Norton, a spokesperson for XexonMobil headquarters, said, “We are evaluating country by country to evaluate possible additional efficiencies to adjust the scale of our business and become stronger in the future. "
