2020-10-28

According to the information released by the General Administration of Customs (GAC) on food and cosmetics not admitted into China, in the third quarter of 2020, 31 batches of cosmetics that failed safety and hygiene items and were not admitted into China were detected by China Customs at port supervision points, a decrease of 47.5% compared to 59 batches in the third quarter of 2019.

Of these, the largest number of unadmitted cosmetic batches were detected in September, with 15 batches.

The origins of these unauthorized cosmetics were Australia, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, Japan, France, South Korea, and Taiwan. Among them, Japan accounted for the largest number of unauthorized cosmetic shipments, with 14 shipments, accounting for nearly half of the unauthorized shipments in the third quarter.

According to the statistics, the reasons for cosmetics not being allowed to enter the country included failure to provide certificates or supporting documents as required, exceeding the shelf life, moldy products, failure to file the consignee, microbial contamination, substandard labeling and substandard packaging. Among them, there were 13 batches of cosmetics that failed to provide the required certificates or certified materials, accounting for about 40% of the cosmetics that were not allowed to enter the country in the third quarter.

The ports of entry of these cosmetics not allowed to enter the country are Beijing, Nanjing, Ningbo, Shenzhen, Haikou, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Tianjin. It is reported that the cosmetics not allowed to enter the country have been returned or destroyed at the port of entry in accordance with the law.
