BASF 's new projetcs of NPG and Citral was started in zhanjiang base

 In the BASF Zhanjiang Integrated Base,another project group started construction! The project consists of Neopentyl glycol (NPG) andCitral (Citral) devices.

• World-class scale NPG device  

Basfstrengthens the global presence of Neopentylene glycol. The new 80,000 t/a device is expected to start production in the fourthquarter of 2025, bringing BASF's global NPG capacity to 335,000 tons per year.

We currently have NPG production facilities in Nanjing and Jilin, China, Ludwigshafen, Germany,  and Freeport, USA. The investment of the fifth NPG device  in Zhanjiang will support thegrowing market demand of our Chinese customers, especially in the field ofeco-friendly powder coatings, while also bringing us closer to our customers insouthern China and further strengthening our business ties.

As an intermediate with high chemical and thermal stability, NPG is mainly used inthe production of polyester resin for powder coatings, which can be used inhousehold appli ances and window frames. Due to their lower volatile organic compounds (VOC) content, powdercoatings help customers meet VOC emission standards, reducing VOC emissions byup to 50% compared to solvent-based coatings. NPGS are also used in the manufacture of lubricants, plasticizers and pharmaceuticals.

Citral device.

The project also includes a Citral device.. The project also includes a Citral device Earlier this month, BASF announced that it willinvest in a new citral facility in Zhanjiang, China, and a new menthol andlinalool downstream facility in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The units are expected to begin production from 2026. The investment is drivenby the growing demand in the global flavor and fragrance market and BASF'sstrong commitment to sustainable transformation.

Thecitral facility in China will consolidate BASF's market position in key growthregions and expand production of a variety of fragrance ingredients and moredownstream products globally. At the same time, the investment will expand the production scale of thecitral value chain in Germany and Malaysia, diversifying production andsupporting customer growth.

Upon completion of the investment,BASF's annual capacity of citral will increase to 118,000 tons. Citral is thebasic material of many fragrances, as well as the upstream raw materials ofvitamin A, vitamin E and other products in the nutrition market
