Lanxess develops tools to calculate the carbon footprint of products

soutuliao 2023-05-22

Recently, LANXESS announced that it has developed a tool that can automatically calculate the carbon footprint of the group's products - product Carbon Footprint Engine. The German certification body TuV Rheinland has certified the tool according to the ISO 14067 standard for quantifying a product's carbon footprint.

Lanxess explains that the tool uses available data from each business unit and uses a "cradle to gate" approach to calculate the emissions generated, covering greenhouse gas emissions from the production process, product-specific emissions related to raw materials, energy, operational materials and transportation, and emissions from waste disposal.

With the product carbon footprint engine, LANXESS plans to help customers achieve their sustainability goals, said Bao Kexin, a member of LANXESS's management board. Customers may request emission data from their sales contacts. Lanxess is continuously improving the data pool used to calculate its carbon footprint.

In addition, LANXESS has launched a company-wide net-zero value chain initiative. As part of this plan, LANXESS is increasing its sourcing of sustainable raw materials, implementing green logistics and expanding its climate-neutral product portfolio.
