Global and U.S. chemical production rose in April
According to Chemengonline, global and U.S. chemical production rose in April, marking another month of incremental growth. According to the American Chemistry Council (ACC), the Global Chemical Production Regional Index (Global CPRI) increased 0.4% in April, following a revised 1.5% increase in March.
In the United States, the U.S. Chemical Industry Production Regional Index (U.S. CPRI) rose 0.5 percent in April. Both indices are measured on the basis of a three-month moving average (3MMA) to reduce monthly volatility.
ACC chief economist Martha Moore said that in April, chemical production increased in all regions except South America. Compared to the same period last year, although global production remained lower than the same period last year, production increased in Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.
In the U.S., April's production gains reflected improvements in several chemical markets, particularly those that were disrupted in the first quarter due to bad weather and refinery maintenance, ACC said.
