ACC: U.S. chemical product production increased in November

According to news on December 23 from Axunsi, "Chemical Week" cited data from the American Chemistry Council (ACC) as saying that chemical production in the United States in November increased by 0.4% from the three-month average (3MMA).

Prior to this, October and September rose 1.1% and 0.6% respectively.

Although the production of coatings, adhesives, crop protection chemicals, and some other industries has declined, production in most chemical end areas has improved, including fertilizers, synthetic dyes and pigments, chlor-alkali and inorganic chemicals. Chemical production in various regions of the country has also increased.

According to ACC, total factory output in November increased by 0.7% from the 3-month average moving volume, indicating a steady trend in chemical demand. ACC said: "Almost all key chemical end-use industries have seen a growth trend, with the steel, aerospace, rubber products, paper, structural board and printing industries experiencing the strongest output growth."

According to ACC data, US chemical production fell by 4.2% year-on-year, marking the 18th consecutive month of decline. However, in recent months, the year-on-year decline has slowed.

As MRC reported earlier, according to the ACC's chemical industry situation and outlook at the end of 2020, chemical production is rebuilding momentum after the global COVID-19 pandemic. The output of chemical products excluding medicines in the United States is expected to fall by 3.6% in 2020, and then increase by 3.9% in 2021. The decline in the United States was the largest since the 2008 and 2009 financial crises. Global chemical production is expected to fall by 2.6% in 2020, the largest decline in at least 40 years, and it will rebound by 3.9% next year. ACC estimates that from December 2019 to around June 2020, the overall global output will fall by 7.8% from peak to trough.

We noticed that in October 2020, the output of Russian chemical products increased by 7.2% year-on-year. At the same time, data from Rosstat shows that in the first 10 months of 2020, basic chemical production increased by 6.3% year-on-year. According to data from the Russian Federal State Statistics Service, from January to October, the output of primary polymers increased the most. The production of primary polymers in October increased from 852,000 tons in September to 857,000 tons. During the reporting period, the total output of primary polymers reached 8.34 million tons, an increase of 17% from last year.
