Agrivalle and Ginkgo Bioworks are strategically partnering to accelerate the development of next-generation agricultural biologics

2023-12-13

Arrivalle, Brazil's leading agricultural biologics company, has announced a partnership with Ginkgo Bioworks. Ginkgo Bioworks is a leader in building cell programming and biosecurity. The two companies will collaborate to advance the development of Agrivalle biologics, including next-generation fertilizers and biocontrol products.

Ginkgo will offer its advanced biology to Agrivalle. Ginkgo will leverage its strain optimization services to improve the efficacy of Agrivalle biocontrol products. In future projects, Ginkgo plans to work with Agrivalle to identify and optimize microorganisms that can provide nutrients to crops and genetically alter their metabolites so that they can be used against specific pests. This could help Agrivalle increase the breadth and efficacy of its new biologics, enabling them to sell or license products worldwide.

Growers' demand for effective and sustainable pesticides continues to increase. As Brazilian regulations encourage the development of innovative and sustainable agricultural biologics, the number of biologics in the country has grown massively. The Brazilian government has also made it easier for startups to finance manufacturing plants and register biologics. This has made the country the largest market for agricultural biologics, growing at an annual rate of more than 30%.

Jason Kelly, co-founder and CEO of Ginkgo, said: "We are very excited to partner with Agrivalle to put breakthrough biologics in the hands of growers. Agrivalle is a pioneer of innovation in Brazil with proven R&D, manufacturing and sales capabilities, and we are excited to help them optimize and advance product development as they look to expand globally."

Andre Kraide, CEO of Agrivalle, said: "The selection of Ginkgo as a strategic partner will put Agrivalle's products at the forefront of agriculture. Access to Ginkgo's proven technical capabilities and expertise in biologics research and development will help us improve our products and meet growers' demand for quality biologics.”
