Corteva launched a $600 million barter trade program in Brazil and Paraguay to facilitate the trading of agricultural inputs
Corteva has launched an innovative barter trading program that aims to help farmers access agricultural inputs more efficiently through a new payment mechanism, while reducing their risk of price volatility in commodity markets. The program allows farmers to use grains harvested during the 2024/25 season, such as soybeans and corn, as a means of payment in exchange for agricultural inputs such as pesticides, biologics and seeds.
The company plans to provide $600 million worth of products in the next planting season to support farmers in obtaining the agricultural supplies they need through barter. The advantage of this payment method is that it eliminates the initial monetary investment required by farmers to acquire agricultural technology, thus reducing their financial burden.
The introduction of this payment method not only solves the problem of initial monetary investment faced by farmers when acquiring agricultural technology, but also provides a more flexible and economical solution. Corteva believes that the implementation of the barter trade program will help farmers gain more security and negotiating advantages in the face of market uncertainty.
In addition, the barter trade program provides farmers with the opportunity to participate in the market through financial derivatives such as options, allowing them to share in the potential price increases of commodities. This is not only a tool for risk management, but also a strategy for securing rural property and stable supply.
Corteva's program provides farmers with whole-cycle agricultural innovations from planting to harvesting that will help them meet everyday farming challenges and increase productivity and profitability. Through barter trade, farmers can more secure production planning, more effectively manage the risk of price fluctuations, so as to achieve sustainable development of agricultural operations.
