ACC: U.S. chemical production rises in January

On March 3, the American Chemical Industry Council (ACC) released data showing that the US Chemical Production Regional Index (US CPRI) rose by 0.8% in January this year after rising 1.4% and 1.1% in December and November last year.

ACC said that in January, almost all regions of the United States saw an increase in chemical production. The Gulf Coast region saw the biggest gains, while the Midwest, Southeast, Ohio Valley, and Northeast regions saw smaller gains. Production was flat in the mid-Atlantic region, while production on the west coast declined slightly.

US CPRI is calculated on the basis of the 3-month moving average (3MMA). Based on this, the chemical production of chlor-alkali, fertilizers, organic chemicals, synthetic rubber, plastic resins, man-made fibers, industrial gases, and synthetic dyes and pigments Continue to grow, and the output of coatings, adhesives, agrochemicals and other specialty chemicals has decreased.

Compared with January 2020, US chemical production decreased by 0.6% year-on-year, marking the 20th consecutive month of year-on-year decline, but it showed continued growth compared with the beginning of the year. With the exception of the Gulf Coast region (a year-on-year increase of 2.5%), chemical production in all regions was lower than the previous year.
