The latest market in March: 7 kinds of synthetic fragrances in China are in short supply

ECHEMI 2021-03-08

On March 5, De Monchy Aromatics, a multinational fragrance company, released a March market report focusing on the market for essential oils and synthetic fragrances in China after the Spring Festival. Today, we first look at the situation of 7 kinds of synthetic fragrances.

2-Acetylpyrazine

Due to the expiration of the production license, China's largest manufacturer of 2-acetylpyrazine raw materials suspended operations in January. Uncertainty in future supply, combined with production stagnation during the Spring Festival, led to a shortage of 2-acetylpyrazine, and the price rose accordingly.

EU natural grade alpha-terpineol

Due to the shortage of raw materials, the price of α-terpineol has continued to strengthen recently. The high price of synthetic α-terpineol has increased the supply pressure of the EU's natural grade α-terpineol.

Leaf Alcohol and derivatives

The supply situation of leaf alcohol and its derivatives is still very tight, with only a small amount of supply outside the contract.

Methyl cyclopentenol ketone

The market for Methylcyclopentenolone has been stable for a long time, but a medium-sized factory in China stopped production in January, causing the price of this spice to soar and the supply is limited.

Strawberry acid

Strawberry acid has been in a predicament for some time. Many factories have stopped production due to environmental issues, prices remain high and supply is limited.

Thiothiazole

Industrial grade thiothiazole can be refined to a higher purity level and used in the flavor and fragrance industry. At present, the supply of industrial grade thiothiazole is still very tight. Therefore, the price of thiothiazole fragrance continues to rise, and the lead time for raw materials from order to delivery is extremely long.

Vanillin/Ethyl Vanillin

China's vanillin production has resumed, but the supply is tight, because manufacturers are still stepping up the delivery of backlog orders. As a result, prices remain high and are not expected to fall in the short term.

Due to the closure of a large factory, since the end of 2019, the supply of ethyl vanillin has continued to be tight and the supply is extremely limited.
