LVMH Bets on Chinese Beauty Products

ECHEMI 2023-12-21

Less than a week after LVMH invested in Chinese makeup brand blank me, on December 20, Hi!papa announced the completion of L Catterton’s investment. The investment amount has not yet been disclosed. It is understood that this is also LVMH’s first investment in a children’s skin care brand in China.

Public information shows that L Catterton LVMH, as the world's largest consumer investment fund, was formed in 2016 by the merger of two private equity firms, Catterton and L Capital. Among them, L Capital is a private equity company under LVMH. Currently, about 60% of LVMH's shares are jointly held by L Capital and Catterton's partners, while the remaining 40% belongs to the family of Bernard Arnault, chairman of LVMH Group.

Hi!papa was established in 2019 and specializes in plant-based skin care for school-age children. As the leading children's skin care brand in China, it has built a complete product matrix that meets the skin care needs of children of all school ages.

It is reported that since its establishment, Hi!papa has created a series of hot products that are extremely popular with consumers, including "Xiaoxueshan Sunscreen Milk", "Little Blue Bottle Facial Cream", "Centella Asiatica Cleansing Bubble", etc. Differentiated from traditional baby and child skin care brands, it has accumulated a complete set of mature new product development iteration models.

Regarding this investment, Chen Yue, managing partner of LVMH Asia Fund, also publicly stated, “Through our in-depth consumer insights in the field of personal care, we see that there is very large room for growth in China’s children skin care market. We are very much looking forward to more cooperation with LVMH, which will help Hi!papa provide global empowerment in terms of products, channels and brand marketing.”
