Ushopal Leads a New Round of Investment in Chinese Perfume Brand Documents
Chinese luxury beauty and retail group Ushopal has led a new multi-million dollar funding round for high-end Chinese fragrance brand Documents. This investment is Ushopal’s first equity investment in a Chinese local brand. Documents intends to use the funds to strengthen the brand's business operations and supply chain management, and develop into a more visionary international brand.
The move confirms Ushopal's growing confidence in China's outstanding high-end beauty brands and the strategic role these brands will play in the company's future investments. "The investment in Documents is Ushopal's first foray into the domestic market, which demonstrates our belief that China has given birth to brands that can move onto the international stage." said Lu Guo, founder and CEO of Ushopal. The group already holds stakes in companies such as French niche perfume brands Juliette Has A Gun and Roos & Roos and British skin care brand Argentum.
Documents was founded by Meng Zhaoran in 2021. Through its brand image that combines oriental traditional culture with contemporary design aesthetics, it has quickly become popular among the younger generation of Chinese consumers. In May 2023, Documents also received Series A financing from multiple partners, including L'Oréal-backed equity fund BOLD, Cathay Capital, Kering and Pernod Ricard.
