An Explosion Occurred at Israel's Largest Polyolefin Factory!
On 14 Jan, local time, according to Israeli media reports, a powerful explosion occurred at Bazan Group’s Carmel Olefins Ltd. in Haifa Bay. The Israeli fire department claimed that the source of the explosion at Carmel Olefins Co. was the reactor and was caused by high pressure, adding that there were no casualties.
Video footage circulating on social media showed dark clouds gathering over the port of Haifa. An eyewitness said the explosion was caused by a missile hitting the port, Quds Press reported.
Carmel Olefins Ltd. was established in 1988 and is affiliated to the Bazan Group, Israel's largest refinery. It is the only polyolefin manufacturer in Israel.
Carmel Olefin's total polyolefin production capacity is 680,000 tons, of which LDPE has 4 production lines with a total production capacity of 180,000 tons; has 2 PP production lines with a total production capacity of 400,000 tons.
