Covestro develops waterborne and UV resins for industrial coating applications
Covestro announced that it is developing a series of water-based and UV high-performance resins. It is suitable for industrial coating applications. This includes wooden furniture, cabinets and building products.
Covestro's waterborne resins are driving real-time changes in the industrial coatings industry. There is growing regulatory and public pressure on water-based solutions. As a result, manufacturers in the wood and building products industries are now imposing new performance targets on raw material suppliers. Covestro solutions meet these goals.
Covestro enables users to go beyond basic specifications and gain next-generation must-have performance attributes. This includes: a more circular water-based solution that contains no substances of very high concern; Three times less volatile organic compounds with performance characteristics, it should match solvent-based resins; reduce oven dewatering time by at least 50%, thus saving energy, and reduce carbon footprint by improving manufacturing efficiency.
"Coaters are looking to increase plant efficiency. They are also looking to expand production and reduce the need for rework and damage. This is due to the slow water release properties of current coating systems," said Mike Jeffries, Business Development Manager Industrial Coatings at Covestro . "One of our water-based solutions can increase production line speeds by 50-60%. It will also maintain other key performance characteristics of the end-use product," Jeffries added.
High performance water-based resin with fast drying efficiency. They also offer excellent stability and improved chemical and blocking resistance. Improving resin stability can reduce waste for manufacturers. Increased throughput can facilitate production expansion without significant capital expenditures. The resin's versatility also means it can adhere to a variety of substrates.
"Differentiated solutions built on sustainability principles that meet the needs of our customers and their customers are at the core of Covestro's purpose," said Aaron Lockhart, head of Covestro's North America Industrial Coatings division.
"Covestro is actively driving the industrial coatings market towards circularity and sustainability. It aims to achieve profitable growth that benefits the entire industry," Lockhart added.
