Arkema and Sireg Geotech develop world's first bendable composite rebar

ECHEMI 2024-03-04

Arkema and Sireg Geotech have developed the world's first bendable composite rebar, offering an innovative alternative to traditional steel bars. Sireg's Glasspree TP bars, based on Arkema's Elium resin, represent a breakthrough for the construction industry.

Sireg's fiberglass rods are made from Elium thermoplastic resin, which has twice the tensile strength of steel. Their outstanding features are their low weight (75% lighter than steel), corrosion resistance, chemical resistance and dimensional stability during extreme thermal changes, while also being fully recyclable. They help increase the energy efficiency of the structure and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of maintenance activities.

Elium thermoplastic resins ensure significant increases in productivity and greater flexibility in the supply of composite reinforcements, thereby increasing the overall profitability of construction projects. Sireg's Glasspree® TP bars are used in a wide range of applications: the construction, maintenance and repair of buildings, bridges, tunnels and marine and coastal structures, which proving their adaptability.

"Glasspree TP bars were developed in partnership between Sireg and Arkema. They represent an innovation in the reinforcement of concrete structures and a new benchmark in safety, reliability and sustainability," said CEO Sireg.
