Arkema Invests $20 Million in North America to Increase PVDF Production Capacity by 15%

ECHEMI 2025-02-27

Arkema plans to increase its polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) production capacity in North America by 15% from the original level, including the expansion of its plant in Calvert City, Kentucky. The expansion project is expected to invest $20 million to meet the growing local market demand for high-performance resins for lithium-ion batteries, semiconductors and cables.

Arkema's Calvert City plant has extensive experience in PVDF production. The capacity increase will focus on developing innovative PVDF products to support the sustainable development of electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems, while meeting the needs of customers in other strategic markets for localized production.

The project is expected to start in mid-2026 to match the increase in production at the North American Super Factory and the significant expansion of local semiconductor production capacity.

Laurent Tellier, Senior Vice President of Arkema High Performance Polymers and Fluoroenzymes, said: "We are very honored to take this step with our customers. This not only reflects our determination to expand our business globally, but also demonstrates our commitment to supporting the development of strategic industries in various regions through investment. We will continue to invest actively to respond to changes in market demand."

Arkema has PVDF production bases in the three major regions of the world - the United States, China and France, and is a leading company in the global PVDF supply field.

Recently, all three production bases have made large-scale investments, and their production capacity has been significantly increased, fully adapting to changes in market demand.
