Arkema Continues to Increase Investment in Singapore, Investing $20 Million to Build a Transparent Polyamide Plant

ECHEMI 2025-07-11

In July 2025, Arkema, a global leader in specialty materials, announced that it would build a new Rilsan® Clear transparent polyamide production plant on its Singapore production platform. The total investment in the project is approximately $20 million and is expected to be put into production in the first quarter of 2026.

The expansion was launched immediately after Arkema's previous advanced plant in Singapore was put into production. The plant mainly produces Rilsan® polyamide 11 (PA11), which has increased Arkema's global PA11 production capacity by 50%. After the new transparent polyamide plant is put into production, the global Rilsan® Clear series production capacity will be increased to three times the current level to meet the growing market demand for high-performance bio-based transparent materials in fields such as glasses, consumer electronics, medical devices and household appliances.

Arkema is a leading global supplier of bio-based transparent polyamides. Its core products include Rilsan Clear Rnew G850 and G820, which contain 45% and 62% bio-based carbon content, respectively. These materials have the advantages of light weight and high transparency, flexibility and chemical resistance, stable performance over a wide temperature range, and support for Virtucycle® recycling.

Laurent Tellier, Vice President of Arkema's High Performance Polymers and Fluorocarbons Business, said: "We are proud to launch this expansion project focusing on Rilsan® Clear transparent polyamide, in line with the rapidly changing market trends and demonstrating our commitment to global growth. This also marks the further deepening of our strategic platform in Singapore, aiming to better serve customers in Asia and around the world."

This expansion is also in line with Arkema's long-term "regional supply" strategy, which achieves shorter delivery cycles, stronger supply chain resilience and competitiveness by expanding local production capacity in the Asia-Pacific region. Since 2017, Arkema has launched an investment plan of approximately 300 million euros to build Singapore's Jurong Island into its core base for polyamide 11 (PA11) industry in the Asia-Pacific region. Since the base officially started production in 2022, Arkema has also raised 300 million euros through green bonds, significantly enhancing its global production capacity layout in the field of high-performance polyamides.
