Arkema Announces Production of Bio-Based Performance Rheology Additives in Europe

Arkema, a leader in specialty materials, is converting its entire range of acrylic thickeners produced in Europe to ensure consistent high performance. This move will introduce up to 30% biobased content and reduce the carbon footprint of products by up to 25% compared to standard grades.

These bio-based specialty additives lay the foundation for the next generation of sustainable coatings and adhesives products, supporting customers in achieving their sustainability and carbon footprint reduction goals.

“These bio-based acrylic thickeners can be used in architectural coatings, industrial coatings, plasters, renders, adhesives, sealants and a variety of applications to optimize the rheology of these systems, and they are consistent for our customers in terms of performance and cost. These bio-based acrylic thickeners will be marketed under the Rheotech™, Thixol™ and Viscoatex™ brands. They are the first products from Arkema’s recently announced bio-based ethyl acrylates produced at its acrylic monomer plant in Carling, France.
