AkzoNobel invests 18.5 million euros to expand powder coating production capacity in Vietnam

ECHEMI 2024-03-05

AkzoNobel has completed a major investment project at its production facility in Bac Ninh province, near Hanoi, Vietnam, which will help strengthen the company’s position in Asia and strengthen its sustainable manufacturing capabilities.

The Bac Ninh provincial base has added 5 new powder coating production lines and a water-based product production line for the consumer electronics market (IT, wireless and home appliances), with a total investment of 18.5 million euros.

Jeff Jirak, managing director of AkzoNobel's powder coatings business, said the addition of a cutting-edge powder coatings production line will help AkzoNobel grow with its customers and respond and service faster, also paves the way for a more sustainable future.

"The increased production capacity at the Bac Ninh province factory allows us to support product sales in the northern region of the country, while our Dong Nai province factory covers the southern region of Vietnam. This shows that we can now focus on streamlining the manufacturing process to meet the diverse needs of the Vietnamese market." Jeff added.

The capacity expansion project includes the construction of a fully automated warehouse for the company's consumer electronics activities, equipped with advanced facilities and technology to increase production efficiency. It will also help AkzoNobel achieve its ambition to halve its carbon emissions by 2030. The new production line for water-based products for the consumer electronics market will also help reduce carbon emissions across the entire value chain.

"We can now offer our latest water-based technology to multinational customers in Vietnam, including major Asian consumer electronics brands, which represents another important step forward in helping to reduce our customers' overall carbon footprint." said Maximilien Schréder, global director of AkzoNobel's consumer electronics business.

The new production line in Bac Ninh province is the latest in a series of investments by AkzoNobel in South Asia, following recent capacity expansions in Pakistan, Thailand and Australia.
