The rapidly developing biopesticide market presents both opportunities and challenges
Recently, the "China biopesticide Industry Report" was officially released, which covers the global and Chinese pesticide industry development status, biopesticide development status and significance, biopesticide industry overview, representative company analysis at home and abroad, related industry analysis and other parts.
The report shows that the global biopesticide market continues to expand, and the market size is expected to grow from $9.5 billion in 2022 to $16.75 billion in 2027, with a compound annual growth rate of 12.0%. The overall scale of the global pesticide market remains stable and is in the stage of structural adjustment, among which the biopesicides market benefits from the environment-driven development trend is good, and the scale growth rate is far higher than that of chemical pesticides. With the further reduction of the use of chemical pesticides, the proportion of biopesticides in the overall pesticide market will continue to increase.
In the global biopesticide market, the world's leading pesticide companies represented by Corteva, UPL, Syngenta, BASF, etc. realized the development potential and importance of biopesticides early, and generally accelerated the layout of the biopesticide market through the acquisition of biotechnology companies or the establishment of cooperation with them, and continued to carry out biopesticide related technology research and development. Continuously improve the company's biological control product business line.
Wang Chongli, product manager of biologics at Syngenta (China), said that the European Union plans to reduce the use of chemical pesticides by half by 2030, based on the premise that the market is gradually transitioning from chemical pesticides to biopesticides. From the perspective of consumers, along with the awareness of environmental protection, the public's pursuit of food quality improvement requires less pesticide residue and good taste, which requires a good combination of chemical pesticides and biological pesticides. Chemical pesticides can very well suppress pests and diseases, later combined with biological pesticides to solve some common diseases of the fruit, such as strawberry powdery mildew, gray mold, in practice will be used after three times into biological pesticides, mature fruit taste is very good, also very green, easy to clean.
″Wang Chongli said, "Compared with chemical pesticides, China's development level in the field of biopesticides is not far from the international advanced level, and we are almost standing on the same starting line." He Qiming, chairman of Chengdu NEWSUN, also expressed the same view: "From the perspective of biopesticide innovation, some technological innovation levels in China are at the same starting line as developed countries in Europe and the United States, which is the biggest opportunity for China's pesticide industry to achieve curve overtaking."
According to reports, the current size of China's biopesticide (including agricultural antibiotics) market accounted for more than 10% of the total pesticide market size, the next five years, China's biopesticide will still grow at a rapid rate of about 15%, and the final proportion of biopesticide market size or will develop to 30%-50%.
The market size reached 15.03 billion yuan in 2022 and is expected to grow to 33.09 billion yuan by 2027, with a compound annual growth rate of 17.1 percent." The report shows that China's biopesticide market is showing a rapid growth trend.
Opportunities here, but also facing difficulties and challenges. Wang Chongli told reporters that at present, the proportion of start-up enterprises in the biological agriculture sector is very large, and the future competition will be more and more large, and the capital market has also noticed this sector. On the other hand, biopesticides also need "good services" to enter the market, because from the intuitive effect, biopesticides are weaker than chemical pesticides, only through more services and guidance, tell users how to use biopesticides well, if the drug time and drug technology is not good, it will affect the role of biopesticides." As for technical guidance, we have yet to form a guiding organization like the Japanese Agricultural Cooperative. For the time being, we are still relying on companies to achieve it
Ren Yongjun, general manager of the technology department of Sinochem, held a similar view, saying, "We will organize farmer training and raise growers' awareness, and technical guidance at the grassroots level is very important." We also have a digital team that applies some digital means to disseminate technical experience."
Ren Yongjun proposed that the green prevention and control business is to pay attention to sustainable development, or the need for the government to strengthen guidance and promote financial support, growers in the past value is immediate results, so the promotion of biopesticide will be a long-term process. When it comes to the requirements for team talent training, Ren Yongjun said that the technical requirements of China's agriculture are not very profound, and only require that everyone be able to firmly set down their hearts, apply their knowledge to the grassroots, help growers improve quality and reduce costs, so that growers can have a good income.
At present, although there are mature agricultural biotechnology enterprises such as Chengdu NEWSUN, which have mastered a variety of core technologies and have mature products, the overall domestic biopesticide market is still relatively scattered, and fewer large-scale enterprises are formed. In the future, with the gradual strengthening of publicity and more differentiated products entering the market, growers will have a deeper understanding of the use of biopesticides, deepen the understanding of biopesticide control effectiveness, acceptance and recognition, the same process, biotechnology will continue to innovate and breakthrough, China's biopesticide industry is expected to continue to develop rapidly.
