SMRF creates India's first database promoting safe healthy personal care

Safety Monitor Research Foundation (SMRF), a Section 8 Company (not-for-profit organisation) promoting safe products and ingredients in personal care and cosmetic products, has created India’s first online database providing safety ratings for baby care, personal care and feminine hygiene products.
The online database www.safetymonitor.org empowers consumers to choose products based on health and safety of ingredients. Consumers can also request for safety rating of products that are not already listed online.
SMRF’s third party safety verification provides manufacturers or brands an extra competitive edge in earning consumer trust. SMRF’s safety verification program encourages manufacturers/brands to be more transparent about their product quality without compromising their trade secrets. The verification process will examine the ingredients data provided by the brand and ensures that the product does not contain any harmful ingredients and false claims.
Today, Indian consumers are using advanced and specialized personal care products. Growing awareness has made young consumers look beyond the product labels. This is evident with the increase in product review sites. “‘SMRF verified’ logo will be a symbol reflecting safety and transparency for a product,” Ms. Simi Sugathan, CEO, SMRF, said.
