UPL and Norway's Gexcon join hands to prevent industrial accidents

UPL Ltd. has signed a pact with Gexcon AS to set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Gujarat to focus on research activities to help evaluate and alleviate chances of industrial accidents. The pact will help UPL develop performance standards coherent with global leaders in manufacturing hazardous chemicals. It will also bring a cultural change among employees and by operating in a cost effective manner will improve company standards.

Gexcon AS is a Norway-based organization and are world leaders in fire and explosion safety and in providing a range of consultancy services, training courses and software. They have more than 35 years of experience in developing safety and risk management software. UPL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gexcon and the project will begin after the final agreement is prepared.

The proposed CoE will be set up at Ankleshwar, in Bharuch district of Gujarat. The expertise and knowledge of Gexcon will be beneficial for the centre, whose infrastructure is being provided by UPL. The total investment for setting up the centre is $1-mn, which will be paid in phases. The proposed CoE will also be equipped to provide solutions to sponsored projects from industry. Genexon will also develop a separate section on virtual reality and audio video facilities.

Process safety and risk management technology to be implemented in all UPL plants

As stated in the MoU, the process safety and risk management technology developed by Gexcon will be implemented in all UPL plants worldwide. The initial focus on process safety and risk management will be only for pesticides and toxic chemical sectors of UPL. This will be followed by other sectors.
