US FDA Rejects Multiple Chinese Food Imports in May 2024
On June 5, 2024, Food Partner Network reported that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had rejected the import of multiple Chinese food products in May 2024. The main reasons for the rejections included products containing adulterated, decomposed, or otherwise unfit substances.
The report states that the rejected products came from different provinces all over China, like Guangdong, Shandong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Fujian.
The affected products covered a wide range of categories including vitamins and minerals, non-carbonated drinks, mushrooms and fungi, dried fruits, and tea.
For example, the FDA rejected imports from a company in Guangzhou for issues with product labeling, and rejected shipments from a company in Jinan, Shandong for suspected unsafe food additives. Mushroom and fungi products from Lishui, Zhejiang, and Shanghai were also rejected for violating Section 805 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
Food Partner Network noted that these import refusals represent a warning system used by the FDA, and do not necessarily mean all samples were tested. The report advised Chinese exporters to closely monitor US import alerts and take proactive measures to address any compliance issues.
Overall, this summary highlights the continued challenges Chinese food producers face in meeting US regulatory requirements for imported goods. Maintaining food safety and quality standards remains crucial for ensuring market access.
