Australia plans the registration of acaricide Interrupt 240 SC(Bayer) and its active ingredient Spiromesifen

The Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicine Authority (APVMA) has announced the proposed registration of the Bayer acaricide Interrupt 240 SC (containing 240g/L Spiromesifen SC) and its active ingredient Spiromesifen.

Spiromesifen will provide a new mode of action for use in Australia against Tetranychus urticae, a mite that infects pear and stone fruits. Interrupt 240 SC is used to control Tetranychus urticae in pome and stone fruits. It is recommended that a vertical sprayer be sprayed to the outflow point at a rate of 50-60 mL/100 L to ensure complete coverage of the leaves and fruit, with a maximum of one application per crop per season at a maximum rate of 1.6 L/ha per application.

Spiromesifen (trade name: Oberon) is an insecticide and acaricide developed by Bayer, which is mainly used to control whitefly and tetranychid in cotton, vegetables and ornamental plants. The dosage form is mainly 240g/L SC. The compound patent CN1174676C in China has expired in January 2020.

The mechanism of action of Spiromesifen is to affect the development of whitefly and mite, interfere with their liposome biosynthesis, especially in the larval stage, has a good activity, and can also produce ovarian tube closure, reduce the reproductive ability of mites and whitefly adults, and greatly reduce the number of eggs. Spiromesifen is thought to be locally endogenous to plants, moving inside plant leaves, allowing it to act on mites that do not come into direct contact with the sprayed surface. Mites are affected quickly after application, and the effect is apparent within 4 to 10 days after application.

Spiromesifen was first registered in the UK in 2003 and first marketed in 2005, and is now registered in several countries including the UK, Indonesia, Brazil, India, Panama, Spain, Italy and Mexico.
