A Wake-Up Call: Imported Green Tea Beverages Exceed Preservative Limits
Recently, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration issued an important announcement revealing serious food safety problems in a batch of green tea extract drinks imported from Vietnam. According to the official report, the contents of benzoic acid and adienoic acid detected in this batch of drinks are seriously excessive, far exceeding the maximum limit standard set by China for food additives. In response, all non-conforming products have been decisively returned or destroyed to prevent them from entering the market and posing a threat to public health.
This incident has aroused wide concern in the society. In the context of the gradual control of the global epidemic and the gradual recovery of international trade, food safety issues have sounded the alarm again. With the acceleration of food trade, some illegal businesses may be greedy for profits, ignore product quality, and even illegally add excessive preservatives and other harmful substances. This behavior not only seriously reduces the quality of food, but also constitutes a direct violation of consumers' health rights and interests.
The seriousness of the food safety problem cannot be ignored. According to the World Health Organization, millions of people around the world fall ill or die every year due to food safety issues. Therefore, for domestic import enterprises, we must be vigilant, strengthen the quality control of imported food, and ensure the safety of products from the source. At the same time, the regulatory authorities also need to further strengthen the inspection and quarantine of imported food and adopt more stringent standards and measures to prevent unqualified food from entering the domestic market.
In addition, consumer education is equally important. The public needs to raise their awareness of food safety, learn to check food labels, and understand the basic knowledge of food additives to protect their rights and interests. Only producers, importers, regulatory authorities and consumers work together to form a comprehensive food safety protection network, in order to truly protect the diet of consumers and maintain the normal order of the food market.
