Chemical Factory in Malaysia's Miri Industrial Park Suffered Sudden Explosion: 10 People Injured, Fire Under Control
In Samarahan, Sarawak, Malaysia, a chemical factory in the Shamarahan Industrial Estate experienced a violent explosion at dusk on August 14th, with thick smoke billowing out, making the scene look like a volcanic eruption. The Shamarahan Fire and Rescue Department immediately took action after receiving the report and dispatched personnel to the scene for rescue. Video clips circulating on social media revealed huge explosion fireballs and thick smoke above the factory.
A spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said that all injured persons had been rushed to the Bentulu Hospital for further treatment. Although the department has not yet obtained detailed casualty figures, as the factory manager has not provided specific details of the accident and has banned the release of photos from the scene, the fire department has confirmed that the explosion was caused by a fire in a reactor at the bottom of the factory.
The spokesperson said, "The factory's emergency response team had already controlled and extinguished the fire before the fire department arrived." He also mentioned, "The factory management said they only needed the fire department to be on standby at the scene."
The Shamarahan Fire Rescue Station firefighters left for the scene at 6:24 p.m. after receiving the distress call and arrived at the scene four minutes later, at 6:28 p.m. The spokesperson added that the fire was successfully controlled by 7 p.m.
