EU New Regulations Revealed: Three Enzyme Feed Additives Approved, but Hidden Health Concerns!

I. Feed additive approval

1. Regulation (EU) 2024/2180

Date: September 3, 2024

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the European Commission has approved the use of three enzyme preparations as feed additives for sows.

Enzyme preparation: endo-1, 4-β-xylanase, endo-1, 4-β-glucanase, xyloglucan-specific endo-1, 4-glucanase

Production strain: Trichoderma citricola DSM 33578

Additive Category: Technical additive (digestive enhancer)

Valid: until 23 September 2034

Effective Date: twenty days from the date of publication

2. Regulation (EU) 2024/2177

Date: September 3, 2024

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the European Commission has approved the use of 6-phytase as an additive to various animal feeds.

Enzyme preparation: 6-phytase

Production strain: Aspergillus oryzae DSM 33737

Suitable animals: poultry, sows, finned fish for fattening or breeding

Additive Category: Technical additive (digestive enhancer)

Valid: until 23 September 2034

Effective Date: twenty days from the date of publication

II. Revision of feed additive content

Regulation (EU) 2024/2179

Date: September 3, 2024

The European Commission has revised the maximum content of 2, 5-dimethyl-4-hydroxy-3 (2H) -furanone as a feed additive for cats and dogs.

Amendment: In the annex, point 3 in the "Other Regulations" column of the entry for additive 2b13010 has been replaced, requiring the label to state that the recommended maximum content of active substances in full-priced feed with a moisture content of 12% per kilogram is:

Cats: 18 mg

Dogs: 25 mg
