€130 Million Loss! KWS Faces Worst Drought in History, Farmers' Livelihoods in Jeopardy

According to the Croatian news agency reported on September 14, Agriculture Minister Dabro said at the autumn agricultural fair in Gudovac that this year's historically rare drought will have a huge impact on Croatian agriculture, currently causing about 130 million euros in losses, and it is expected that the loss figure may be higher. Dabbro stressed that the impact of this drought on agriculture is unprecedented, and agricultural production in many areas has been severely affected, resulting in farmers facing huge economic losses.

Dabbro said crops such as sugar beets and soybeans were the hardest hit, and the ministry's top priority now is to accurately assess the damage, because without precise information about the affected areas, it is difficult to take concrete support measures. He said the agriculture ministry would activate EU aid funds to subsidize farmers' losses. In addition, he announced the launch of a new industry tender to maintain current crop production levels and increase production, especially meat, milk, fruits and vegetables.

Dabbro also noted that the Agriculture Ministry will work with relevant agencies to develop a series of response measures to mitigate the impact of the drought on agriculture. These include providing irrigation equipment, improving farmland infrastructure and promoting drought-resistant crop varieties. Dabbro stressed that these measures will help improve the resilience of agriculture to disasters and ensure stable incomes for farmers.

In addition, Dabbro also called on farmers to actively participate in agricultural insurance schemes to cope with similar natural disasters that may occur in the future. He said that agricultural insurance is an important means to protect the interests of farmers and can help farmers reduce economic losses when they encounter natural disasters. Dabbro said the ministry will continue to monitor the development of the drought situation and adjust the response measures in a timely manner to ensure the stability of agricultural production and the interests of farmers.
