Solvay licenses hydrogen peroxide process technology to North Huajin Chemical Industries for 300,000 tonnes of propylene oxide per year

ECHEMI 2024-11-06

Solvay has reached an agreement to license its advanced hydrogen peroxide technology to North Huajin for use in its Panjin plant in Liaoning Province, China, which can produce 300,000 tonnes of propylene oxide per year and is scheduled to start production in 2026.

North Huajin will leverage Solvay's proprietary hyperscale process, including process design packages, operational expertise and support services to ensure reliable and optimized output.

Solvay works with customers to build efficient, reliable and safe production facilities through its advanced hydrogen peroxide technology. In addition, Solvay will provide proprietary 2-pentylanthraquinone (AQ), a key chemical for Solvay's hyperscale plant technology to achieve high productivity and environmentally friendly chemical processes, which will support Solvay's strategic growth of hydrogen peroxide business in China.

Carlos Silveira, President of Solvay’s Peroxides business, said: “This is the third licensing agreement that Solvay has signed in China for its proprietary high-yield, ultra-large-scale hydrogen peroxide process technology. Through these collaborations, we help customers produce high-quality hydrogen peroxide with the same performance as our own equipment. We look forward to working closely with North Huajin.”

“The signing of this agreement is an important milestone in the development of our cooperation. We believe that by combining our advantages in resources, value chain and deep local market knowledge with Solvay’s expertise, advanced technology and production management capabilities, we will be able to better meet market needs.”

Hydrogen peroxide to propylene oxide (HPPO) is the main process for producing propylene oxide, a key chemical intermediate for the manufacture of polyurethane foams (used in mattresses and car seats), adhesives, coatings, and a variety of plastics and chemicals essential to industries such as construction, automotive, healthcare and agriculture.
