ECHEMI 2024-11-07

Danish biotech company Zealand Pharma announced in a statement on Thursday that they expect to initiate a phase 2b clinical trial of petrelintide, its candidate for the treatment of obesity, in the fourth quarter of 2024. "We are very much looking forward to starting a large and full Phase 2b trial as soon as possible and are actively exploring opportunities with potential partners to take this important project forward," said Adam Steensberg, chief executive officer of Zealand Pharma, in a statement.

The company further revealed that it plans to begin clinical trials of petrelintide in patients who are overweight or obese and do not have type 2 diabetes in the fourth quarter of 2024, and expects to complete enrollment of all patients in the first half of 2025. In addition, Zealand Pharma said it expects to initiate a Phase 2b clinical trial in overweight or obese patients and people with type 2 diabetes in the first half of 2025 to further validate the safety and efficacy of petrelintide in this patient population.
