China-Iceland Cooperation Project Begins, Expected Completion of the World’s Largest Green Methanol Plant in 20 Months

ECHEMI 2024-11-20

On November 11, 2024, as a model of cooperation between China and Iceland, the global Jilin Company, the designer of the Liaoyuan 170,000 tons/year methanol project of Jilin Tianying New Energy Co., LTD., held a process package commencement meeting and successfully completed the processing of the site construction permit, which marked the full start of the project construction.

The project is planned to be divided into four phases, and the groundbreaking ceremony marks the official start of the construction of the first phase of the project, which is expected to be completed in 20 months. When fully completed, the project will form the world's largest green methanol production plant, which will use carbon dioxide and renewable energy as raw materials, capable of absorbing and converting up to 250,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

On October 29, the Global Jilin Company participated in the "China Tianying and Iceland Carbon Cycle International Green Methanol Project technology Licensing Agreement signing Ceremony" held in Hai 'an, Nantong. In their speeches, Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate of Iceland and Counsellor Pei Yingge of the Embassy of Iceland expressed their gratitude to China for its great contribution and efforts in the field of global sustainable development. Lott Rosenberg, CEO of Iceland Carbon Cycle International, stressed that the China-Ice green methanol project is the world's largest green methanol plant and has epoch-making significance on a global scale.

The global Jilin Company participated in the project cooperation and witnessed the signing of the technology license agreement for the China-Ice green methanol project. This is not only the first time that the global Jilin Company undertook the engineering design of green electricity conversion to green methanol project, but also the largest domestic green methanol industrialization project, marking that China's methanol industry has entered a new stage of development.
