BASF expands sustainable portfolio in Lemford

ECHEMI 2024-12-04

BASF has completed the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification program for the production of biomass-balanced thermoplastic polyurethanes at its production site in Lemford, Germany. In addition, BASF has successfully completed the REDcert2 annual recertification for various thermoplastic and polyurethane systems. This enables BASF to expand its sustainable portfolio and remains committed to supporting customers in achieving their sustainability goals.

BASF supports its customers in achieving their sustainability goals with the mass balance approach. This approach allows fossil resources to be replaced with renewable and recycled raw materials in BASF's Verbund production units and allocated to the corresponding products. By replacing fossil raw materials with renewable resources, customers receive products with lower CO2 emissions. The formulation and quality of the corresponding end product remain unchanged. For example, Elastollan 1185 A10 FCI for films or hoses in sensitive applications (food contact or medical engineering) can be offered as a product variant certified according to ISCC PLUS.

“With this direct solution, our customers can get products with lower CO2 emissions compared to conventional materials without having to make any technological changes,” said Artur Pfeif, Product Management TPU at BASF’s High Performance Materials Europe division. “Reducing the demand for fossil resources and greenhouse gas emissions is very important for today’s producers and consumers.”
