India's New PP/PVC Standards Postponed to June 2025
India's Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has decided to extend the deadline for implementing quality control standards for polypropylene (PP) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products. According to a notification released after consultations with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the new implementation date has been adjusted to June 24, 2025.
This adjustment marks the third revision of the quality control order (QCO) for these materials. Originally, the quality control for these chemicals was set to take effect on December 24, 2025. Once implemented, PP and PVC not conforming to BIS standards will be banned from import and sale.
Polypropylene (PP) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) play key roles in various sectors. PP is widely used in automotive parts, home appliances, packaging molding, and the extrusion process for producing sheets, films, fibers, and profiles. PVC has extensive applications in the construction industry, especially for pipes, wall panels, windows, and in the manufacturing of plastic bottles, packaging, and bank cards.
According to IndustryARC, India's polypropylene market is expected to reach $14.8 billion by 2027. Meanwhile, Blueweave Consulting predicts that India's PVC pipe market will grow to $269.85 million by 2029.
