Axalta and Dürr Collaborate on Digital Automotive Painting Technology
Axalta Coating Systems, a leading global coatings company, and Dürr Systems AG, a leading mechanical and plant engineering company, have entered into a partnership to provide digital painting solutions that combine Axalta’s NextJet™ technology with Dürr’s robotic integration.
Digital painting, also known as overspray-free application, is an advanced paint application that enables precise paint placement. Under the terms of the agreement, Dürr will serve as the robotic integrator for Axalta NextJet™ for light vehicle original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
"Maskless painting of shades and patterns requires collaboration. By working with Dürr, we can better serve our OEM customers, building on Axalta's coatings expertise and Dürr's robotics integration. Together, we are driving the future of digital paint technology," said Hadi Awada, President of Axalta Global Automotive Coatings.
"We are excited to work with Axalta on the next generation of digital painting. As a pioneer in overspray-free applications, Dürr understands the requirements of OEMs for personalized design of their vehicles. This agreement will enable our joint technology to get to market faster and meet the needs of our customers."
The collaboration leverages the digital painting expertise that Axalta and Dürr have each built up in recent years. In 2023, Axalta and Xaar announced a digital painting partnership to combine their unique capabilities to provide solutions for light vehicle OEMs.
Xaar will continue to be an integral part of Axalta and Dürr's digital painting solutions for the OEM market.
Demonstrations of the Axalta NextJet™ on a Dürr robot have already begun at the Dürr Test Center in Bietigheim, Germany.
