Major Shake-Up in Big Pharma in 2025: Four Executives Resign
As we enter 2025, many publicly traded pharmaceutical companies are witnessing significant leadership shifts. On January 22, Northeast Pharmaceutical announced the replacement of its chairman and general manager, drawing attention within the industry.
The company’s board recently received a resignation letter from Zhou Kai, the general manager, who stepped down for work adjustment reasons. As of the announcement date, Zhou held 4,220,100 shares in the company. Following his resignation, Zhou was elected as the new chairman.
In light of this transition, the board convened on January 21, 2025, to approve the appointment of Cai Yonggang as the new general manager. Cai has an extensive background within Northeast Pharmaceutical, having held various roles including assistant general manager, deputy manager of the equipment department, and head of the marketing department, among others. He currently owns 350,000 shares in the company and has no affiliations with board members or significant shareholders.
In a related announcement, Guo Jianmin also resigned from his position as chairman due to work adjustments. Guo, who held 3,195,000 shares, will remain a board member. Zhou Kai was subsequently elected to take over as chairman.
Zhou has a rich history with the company, having served in multiple roles, including deputy director of the technology department, executive vice president, and chairman of several subsidiaries. His extensive experience positions him well for his new leadership role.
Northeast Pharmaceutical has experienced frequent executive changes in recent years. Notably, in October 2020, former chairman Wei Haijun resigned due to work changes, leading to Guo Qiyong stepping in as interim chairman. Guo himself later resigned in September 2021, paving the way for Guo Jianmin to take over, now announcing his own resignation.
Northeast Pharmaceutical operates under Fangda Group and is involved in various sectors, including chemical pharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical commerce, pharmaceutical engineering, and biopharmaceuticals. Their product lineup features a range of medicines, including vitamins and anti-infection drugs.
Financially, the company has seen significant fluctuations. From 2018 to 2023, its revenue figures were 7.467 billion, 8.220 billion, 7.384 billion, 8.145 billion, 8.809 billion, and 8.243 billion yuan respectively. The net profit attributable to shareholders showed a similar trend, with figures of 195 million, 174 million, 12 million, 99 million, 350 million, and 358 million yuan. According to the latest report for the third quarter of 2024, the company reported a main revenue of 6.134 billion yuan, a decline of 4.22% year-on-year, with a net profit of 208 million yuan, down 5.37% from the previous year.
