China to Impose Tariffs on US Imports Starting February 10, 2025
On February 4, the Tariff Commission of the State Council announced that, with government approval, new tariffs will be imposed on select imports from the United States starting February 10, 2025. This decision comes in response to the recent actions taken by the US government.
On February 1, the US government announced a 10% tariff on all goods imported from China, citing issues related to fentanyl and other concerns. This unilateral move by the US seriously undermines World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations and does not contribute to resolving its own issues. Furthermore, it disrupts normal economic and trade relations between China and the US.
Starting February 10, China will apply a 15% tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas, while 10% tariffs will be placed on crude oil, agricultural machinery, large displacement vehicles, and pickups. Specific product details can be found in the attached announcement. The tariffs will be levied on top of the current applicable rates, and existing tax exemption policies will remain unchanged. Importantly, these new tariffs will not be eligible for exemptions.
