Xampla and DIC to Introduce PFAS-Free Morro Coating to Asia

Xampla is partnering with global chemicals manufacturer DIC Group to introduce its PFAS- and plastic-free Morro coating to Japan and the wider Asian region. This marks the first time Morro coating has entered the Asian packaging industry, contributing to the region's efforts to phase out plastic and PFAS-based materials.

This collaboration aims to help Japanese packaging manufacturers replace existing plastic and PFAS coatings in various food packaging products for both domestic and international markets. Leveraging DIC Group's global leadership and operational excellence, Morro Coating will scale up in Asia, accelerating the adoption of safer and more sustainable packaging solutions.

With the continued growth in global demand for biomaterials, Japan is becoming a leader in the transition to a circular economy. Under the Plastics Recycling Law, the Japanese government has set ambitious targets, including reducing single-use plastic consumption by 25% by 2030 and increasing the use of biomaterials in the supply chain to 2 million tons. As a nation closely linked to the marine environment, Japan faces a severe challenge from plastic pollution, making sustainable packaging innovation increasingly important.

By introducing Morro Coating to Japan, DIC will help domestic manufacturers replace plastic coatings used in food packaging with high-performance, bio-based alternatives. Morro Coating is a plug-and-play solution that integrates seamlessly into existing supply chains, is highly compatible with standard coating processes, and is suitable for a variety of substrates and packaging formats.
