Arkema Celebrates 20 Years of Organic Peroxide Production with Major Capacity Expansion

ECHEMI 2025-04-01

On March 28, Arkema celebrated the 20th anniversary of its organic peroxide plant in Changshu, China, marking a significant milestone with the launch of new production capacities. This expansion increases the plant's output of organic peroxides by 2.5 times, enhancing Arkema's ability to serve high-growth markets across Asia, particularly in renewable energy and other strategic sectors.

Arkema's Luperox® organic peroxides are essential catalysts in various polymers, playing a critical role in industries such as energy, construction, packaging, and pharmaceuticals. In the context of the global shift towards green energy and lightweight materials, Luperox® products are vital for manufacturing components like solar panels and wind turbine blades.

Over the past two decades, the Changshu facility has consistently increased its production capacity. Looking ahead, Arkema plans to deepen its commitment to China, leveraging the country's innovative ecosystem and industrial advantages to provide sustainable specialty materials solutions globally.

Arkema was founded in October 2004 as a result of the restructuring of the chemical business of Total Group and became publicly listed in 2006. Today, it stands as a leader in specialty chemicals, focusing primarily on specialty materials, which accounted for 91.56% of its revenue in 2024.

In 2024, Arkema reported overall sales of €9.544 billion, nearly unchanged from €9.514 billion in 2023, driven by growth in its specialty materials sector. The EBITDA reached €1.532 billion, a 2.07% increase year-on-year.

This year, Arkema's specialty materials segment generated €8.739 billion in revenue, with advanced materials alone accounting for 37.32% of total revenue. The growth in this segment was supported by strong demand in Asia, although a significant decline in the European market partially offset this increase.

Arkema's commitment to innovation and sustainability continues to position it as a key player in the specialty chemicals market, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of various industries.
