New Shanghai Innovation Hub Marks Bold Step as PCG Unveils Asia’s Latest R&D Center on April 17
Perstorp and sister company BRB, under the strategic umbrella of PETRONAS Chemicals Group (PCG) Specialty Chemicals, officially launched a state-of-the-art innovation center in Shanghai on April 17. This bold move signals an accelerated push into Asia’s specialty chemicals market, aimed at bolstering both regional innovation capabilities and customer responsiveness.
Designed to enhance product development and technical services, the new lab is a strategic part of Perstorp’s broader Asian footprint. The facility targets fast-growing segments such as synthetic lubricants, thermal management fluids, personal care, and coatings, while supporting existing strengths in silicones and intermediates.
Debbie Chiu, COO of PCG Specialty Chemicals, emphasized that this investment is a clear reflection of PCG’s global ambition to lead the specialty chemicals sector, achieved through closer collaboration between PCG, Perstorp, and BRB. “We are building on global synergies and expanding our expertise with full commitment to innovation and customer-centric growth,” she noted.
According to Axel Tuchlenski, Head of Innovation at PCG Specialty Chemicals, the new center enables faster go-to-market timelines and deeper market insights, allowing teams to deliver tailor-made solutions that meet evolving demands. With increased in-person collaboration opportunities, PCG expects to strengthen ties across Greater China and Asia.
As one of PCG’s latest investments in application-driven R&D, the Shanghai hub underscores the group’s unwavering focus on developing localized solutions through customer partnerships, setting a strong foundation for future growth across the region.
