45 Thousand Ton Expansion in Texas Boosts COIM USA’s Bio-Based Polyol Push

ECHEMI 2025-05-26

COIM USA, a subsidiary of Italy’s COIM Group, has made a bold move in the sustainable materials sector with the acquisition of a 20-acre facility in New Boston, Texas. The site, previously owned by Palmer International, comes equipped with logistics infrastructure and a newly commissioned bio-based polyol production line utilizing cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL).

This strategic purchase enhances COIM’s existing Isoexter polyester polyol portfolio, adding a renewable solution to its product lineup. More importantly, COIM plans to ramp up capacity to 100 million pounds (45,000 metric tons) annually by mid-2027, strengthening its North American footprint in green chemistry.

Michelangelo Cavallo, President of COIM USA, emphasized the deal’s significance: “This expansion not only strengthens our geographic reach and sustainable offerings but also increases our agility and resilience in serving customers across North America.”

The Texas plant is poised to create strong operational synergies, complementing COIM’s current assets and enhancing supply chain reliability. The expansion ensures redundant capabilities and faster regional service, solidifying COIM’s commitment to sustainable and stable production.

The CNSL-based polyols being produced are closely related to Palmer’s Perenniol™ technology, known for its low viscosity, high catalytic activity, and use in rigid foam insulation and soil stabilization. These polyols offer unique Mannich-derived structures that reduce the need for traditional amine catalysts, delivering faster processing with lower emissions.

In addition, Perenniol™ boasts high renewable content, natural antimicrobial properties, and excellent flame resistance, making it a standout in both performance and environmental impact. The compatibility with aromatic polyester polyols expands its application versatility across demanding industrial sectors.

This acquisition is more than a capacity boost—it marks COIM USA’s deepening commitment to bio-innovation, regional efficiency, and sustainable growth, setting a new benchmark for the polyol industry in North America.
