Henkel and Sasol Collaborate to Create New Low-Carbon Adhesives
Henkel and Sasol have entered into a strategic partnership to reduce the environmental impact of hot melt adhesives. By integrating Sasol’s newly developed Sasolwax LC product line into Henkel’s Technomelt portfolio for the European, Indian, Middle Eastern and African markets, Henkel can now offer advanced adhesive solutions with a lower carbon footprint, especially for manufacturers of consumer packaging.
Produced using Sasol’s modified Fischer-Tropsch process, Sasolwax LC100 reduces the process carbon footprint (PCF) of the product by 35% compared to a proven standard formulation without compromising performance. As a drop-in replacement for Henkel’s proven formulations, it enables a smooth transition in production lines while supporting Henkel’s goal to reduce absolute scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.
The collaboration reflects the two companies’ shared commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and solid sustainability practices. The PCF methodology used across Sasolwax’s entire value chain has been carefully developed and independently verified to be in compliance with ISO 14040, 14044 and 14067 standards, ensuring transparency and credibility of environmental claims.
“This collaboration demonstrates how innovation in materials science can deliver measurable benefits to our customers,” said Corbett Wallace, Global Vice President of Henkel Adhesive Technologies Consumer Products. “As demand for more sustainable consumer products grows, our collaboration with Sasol will help brands achieve their environmental goals without sacrificing quality or performance. Together, we will drive smarter, more responsible choices across the value chain.”
“We are honored to join forces with Henkel on this strategic partnership, which marks an important milestone in our journey towards a more sustainable future together,” said David Mokomela, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Sasol Chemicals. “The 35% reduction in PCF emissions from the Sasolwax LC range is just the first step towards further significant reductions. Because our products are designed as plug-and-play replacements, the market can quickly benefit from a reduced carbon footprint.”
Technomelt adhesives are used in a wide range of applications, including food and beverage packaging, hygiene and personal care products. By integrating Sasolwax LC100, Henkel is enabling partners to improve the sustainability of their products at the material level, helping consumer brands achieve their climate goals while also increasing transparency in the supply chain.”
