Henkel to Set Up Adhesive Materials Manufacturing Plant in Maharashtra
Henkel has announced the opening of an advanced application engineering center in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, further strengthening its Adhesive Technologies business’ leadership in the electronics sector. The company will also set up an adhesive materials manufacturing plant for the electronics industry at its multi-functional manufacturing site in Kulkumbha near Pune.
“As India solidifies its position as a global electronics manufacturing hub, Henkel is proud to strengthen its ‘Make in India’ commitment and be a key partner in this journey,” said S Sunil Kumar, President of Henkel India.
“The new plants in Chennai and Kulkumbha are in line with this growth, enhancing the region’s self-sufficiency and supply chain resilience. This marks an exciting milestone in our journey to expand our footprint in the region while better serving our global customer base. It demonstrates our commitment to building long-term partnerships, driving innovation and creating value for our customers.”
The 17,000 square foot Chennai facility is designed to accelerate new product introductions (NPIs) and reduce customers’ time to market. The center features five dedicated labs dedicated to advanced adhesive solutions and thermal management materials, which are critical to improving the reliability, durability and stylish design of smartphones, wearables and other consumer electronics.
The center will expand Henkel's global innovation footprint, complementing its existing innovation sites in Germany, the United States, China, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. With these investments, Henkel further strengthens its position as a key innovation partner for global electronics manufacturers.
Wen Zhou, Vice President of Henkel Adhesive Technologies Electronics Business, said the investments are a natural progression for the company to grow in India and diversify the supply chain for the electronics market. "We have established a presence in India for a long time, and as customers strengthen their presence in the region, we are investing in additional local capabilities to provide collaborative NPI and product validation expertise more immediately."
The new facility in Kurkumbu will enhance Henkel's capabilities in high-performance adhesive and coating solutions, strengthen its commitment to localization, and meet the evolving needs of the Indian electronics industry. The plant will benefit from the Industry 4.0-based smart factory system deployed at the Kurkumbu manufacturing site, which improves operational efficiency and product quality while minimizing downtime.
